I applied for and was accepted to a Baking and Pastry program at a small school in SF. It's inexpensive (comparatively) and is part time: Monday and Wednesday nights and every other Saturday. It lasts 6 months and ends just as the PhD program at UCSC begins. I decided to take it on now because this will be the only time in the next six years or so that I'll have some free time. If I get accepted into the UC program, my free time and maybe my not so free time will be taken up with studies, classes.
I've got several ideas in mind for how I might use the program: non-profit bakery, early morning bread baker, pastry chef. I like the idea of using my hands instead of my head for once.
