July, as in Miranda

I deliberately charge things on my Amazon credit card (and then pay it off immediately) so that I can earn free books. My most recent aquisition is "No one belongs here more than you." a book of short stories by my very, most favorite, artist, actor, writer, Miranda July. I want to savor each of these stories because I know the discovery will be gone once I reach the end. While waiting for the kids to get out of school today, I read the first story and it was exactly as I knew it would be: Unexpected, beautiful, perfect.

So now moving from the wonderful to the profane, if you ever had a doubt that waterboarding was not torture, one only has to listen to today's broadcast of The News Hour with Jim Lehrer. I felt like I was drowning listening to the procedure being described. So much so that I had to turn it off.

Art saves me.

Oh, I've been wanting to read this book. I loved Me and You and Everybody We Know (hope I got that title right--I saw it a year or so ago, I think)

And the web ad she made for this book was priceless too, and very funny. I would really like to know more about her work.

You should also check out "Learning to Love You More." Harrell Fletcher is the one touring on its behalf right now (he was just here...maybe he's headed down your way?), but it's just as much—if not more—hers. I sat down intending to just flip through it and couldn't put it down for two hours.

I will do that...even if I don't get it for free. I was familiar with the website, but didn't know it had been made into a book. Thanks for that.

She's also the cover-star for this month's BUST magazine.

Loved the movie too. I got to see it when we were living in Royan.
